Perhaps we should start a facebook campaign to bring Nutria cooking to Amity

Some of my loyal readers have wondered if our favorite local gourmet restaurant should look at adding naturally wild raised nutria to the menu. Free range Nutria?
Some may scoff at adding this to the fare bill of the Blue Goat but it is not such a strange idea. Nutria were introduced into this area for food and fur.
Here are some suggestions.
Crock Pot Nutria (from www.nutria.com)
From Food.com
From our local Gannet Paper-The Statesman Urinal
And last but not least,
A woman was attacked by a Nutra at.... Yes, you guess it WallMart-the home of invasive species... There are also recipes at this site.

Now for my one cooking tip-Do not throw the nutria that the dog brings into your front yard onto a home built incinerator. It is disgusting... And it grosses out the kids. (good thing)

  1. "The recipe reminds you that when stirring the nutria stew, "scrape the bottom of [the] pot to remove all the goodness." Mmm-mm."

    I like that!

  2. I think we should trade in the daffodil festival for the Nutria Festival. My father ate Nutia years ago and said it tasted pretty good. We could have Nutia on a stick and deep fried Nutria. They are a hoot to stalk and shoot with the .22 Perhaps Nutria fur hats will come back with this global cooling thing. Plus, they are a non native, invasive specials so it is ecologically responsible to shoot them.

  3. I think the Nutria Festival idea rocks. You could also have nutria races and nutria-chili cook-offs. You could even have a Miss Nutria Beauty....er.... Talent Contest, so you could have some girl in a gown and a sash to help bring media attention to the event.

  6. Try this again. Spell check is fine, but I need a good word check.
Down here they pay up to 5 dollars for the tails. Not a bad bounty. Some folks have made a living from this.
I also hear it tastes good with Everclear.

  7. Ah yes! Everclear. It can fuel your truck to get to the nutria hunting spot and then fuel the fire to cook it. It also makes a fine preservative and is useful afterwards for "tapping the admiral".

  8. "Tapping the Admiral," I swear the lazy farmer is a refuge for anachronisms.
Bobby, what if I mail you the tails and we split the cash?
Gorges, a girl with the biggest two front teeth and whiskers would win!
