Go to the Contrary Farmer.
I wholeheartedly agree with his post today.
Scroll down and watch people get shrill in the comment section. Watch me ramble about and get off subject!
Try to tell me science is not a religion! The only difference between me and a believer in science is that I have doubts! And I believe in the Green Man and Wee Folk and assign meaning to random events, oh wait, now I'm getting into the realm of science, just because I don't know how to model it in my computer doesn't mean I don't want it to be true!
Now I'm going to go plant annual ryegrass in a tractor with no GPS working and only one of my four monitors actually connected!
This Blog does not in any Fathomable way reflect any of the current opinions or beliefs of the institution I used to work for. In fact my former employer has completely disavowed any link or reference to them in this blog.

All I could think about while reading some of those comments was that I'm glad I have other crap to worry about rather than how much carbon I'm emitting. I mean, my wife would probably be happy if I emitted a little less, but I don't really care. I predict in 40 years we'll be discussing how to destroy the excessive ice caps as global cooling has caused them to grow exponentially.
ReplyDeleteMy family would be happy if that duck would quit following me as well. I'm thinking it is a pretty dangerous source of CO2 and perhaps methane.
DeleteWhen I was a lad it was global cooling and the certainty of a new ice age. You know they don't know what the %^&* they are talking about, they just tell each other they do so as to keep the grant money flowing.
If you're with Gene, that makes two of us. I figure that by the time that earth becomes unhabitable, some other planet ought to be about right!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the earth would be a better place without humans... Why does it matter if we go extinct? We all have to die sometime and we can't worry about it after we are dead...
Delete"as I get older I agree more and more and we should live responsibly because that is the right thing to do and not because it will make money for the energy trust or allow some rich dudes to trade carbon credits…."
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more on that. However, I can't believe that all scientists are free of doubts. Things are learned and unlearned, theories proven and dis proven, etc. Not all are egotists. Science changes constantly, as more is learned. Religion changes just as much, but mostly because of disagreement on doctrine. In the end, the goal should be to treat each other and the earth with love and respect and not condemn or destroy.
I like to burn old tires and shoot at things that explode. And I like clouds of black toxic smoke!
DeleteAnd ice-cold air conditioning in my tractor that leaves a trail of hydraulic fluid behind it.
So sue me.
(It will happen I'm sure)
Theres really not much hope for us is there?
ReplyDeleteNot with Maker's Mark being half water...
DeleteWe all worry about things we can do nothing about. The economy may or may not collapse. Big farms will take over the best ground. Wheat prices will eventually collapse. The issues of gun control and the police state will continue and the constitution is already gone. Life is one foot in front of the other. You enjoy the good times and get through the bad times. What else is there?
ReplyDeleteI do find the people on Gene's blog pretty funny. They are all behind him on sustainability and anti-monsanto and anything to do with scratchy wool underwear but doubt one of the basic pillars of the faith, as in man-made global warming and he gets a whole pile of earnest theological, er scientific, arguments to show he is wrong. Most of which miss the whole point of his post.
