The ole lazy farmer, I remember that one. Trouble was or wasn't, dad wasn't one. He was the hardest working man I ever met and that says something. We ran 300 acres for a landlord, rented some ground on the side, raised tobacco on the side. All of the crops went through 50 cows and calves or more, 300 chickens, 30 sows and pigs. We even milked 14 cows by hand for awhile. Anything to make a living. Dad always talked about lazy farmers but I never knew one. He sure wasn't one...
The Lazy Farmer was a favorite cartoon when I was a kid. It was a bit hard to read and I kind of think the humor of that particular ethnic farmer joke is pretty much lost on my younger generation. I still remember by grandpa who what anything but lazy. Died at work... But, when we were cutting wood in the winter I would find those old cartoons down in the basement. The shelves were lined with Farmer-Stockman magazines from the 1940's. I thought the Lazy Farmer fellow had things pretty well figured out!
