Just another reason for the resistance

It has taken me years to realize the simple difference between "them" and "us."
"They" believe that a law makes it right. "We" believe in right and wrong as a universal standard best exemplified in "the chronicles of Narnia,"  kipling's "if," and "Tom swift and his atomic Highway."
"They" believe in telling you what is best for you, for example, Teddy Roosevelt stealing Yosemite from the local ranchers and local indians and turning it over to John Muir and his Sierra club cronies.
But I digress, before I even got started.
I hate the new gas cans and the idiots who thought lawnmower gas was killing polar bears.

I try to make it work.

I solve the problem...

I kill a polar bear...

  1. Yep, I can tell. I almost resorted to the same thing. Fortunately I found some replacements that work on our 5 gallon cans. Plain flexible spout with a vent to install.

  2. Obviously I have not bought a new gas container in a long time as I don't see what the problem is. I wonder what they would say about the "auxiliary gas tank" on my 39 Ford. A used 4 litre oil jug with a hose in it and plastic wrap to seal it.

    1. They are more expensive and have some sort of stupid spring and cam mechanism designed to annoy you. Side cutters or a hacksaw can be used to remedy the situation.

  3. That red and white thing with the spring on it comes all the way out if you pull hard enough. It works a little better without it. Currently reading Tom Swift & his Submarine Boat. No EPA to stop him from his exploits.

  4. Some hardware stores still carry water only cans that have the old style spouts on them. I started saving every gas can spout I could find years ago which will work until they change the throat size on the new cans.

    1. The new "safety" cans like the one pictured have a different thread pitch than the old gas cans. At least the diesel one I'm sorry I bought does.

    2. Those four quart oil jugs also work.

  5. The bad thing is that you can't find the old-fashioned kind of spout to put on the new cans. I guess we could start carrying gas in one gallon glass wine bottles. Of course you have to empty the bottle first.

  6. Actually it was Abraham Lincoln who began protection and preservation of the Yosemite Valley by which time the European immigrants has directly and indirectly decimated the Native American population. I'm not sure that crowd of immigrants really had any rights to anything anyway. I will agree that gas cans in the current age to blow.

    1. Facts should never get in the way of a good rant, but John Muir did talk Teddy Roosevelt into expanding the park by expelling the sheep ranchers from the surrounding valley.

    2. Also, black soldiers were used to occupy the National Parks in remote areas. I would suspect this was not the best posting one could ask for but since it was for National Parks which is good, and progressives are good, it was not racism, because everybody knows nonwhite people are all oppressed and nature is oppressed and so we can call on the undeniable virtue of the oppressed and all is good... Although "good" is a codeword for oppression.

  7. It would seem that displacement of Native Americans and sheep ranchers has preserved some spectacular natural resources for all people over the option of it being developed and filled with Dollar Stores, WalMarts, vinyl-sided tract homes, the 'cabins' of the rich and sheep ranches. All my metal gas cans have died and I lament their passing. Their plastic successors have simple spouts. Certainly I have enough to last most of my gas transportation days. There is good and bad to regulation which does involve compromise and negotiation.
