Grandpa Champ says you should alway switch off Appliances before working on them but I say, what is the point of paying for a GFI if you don't use it!

Most folks do not understand electricity. When I say "most folks," I am actually saying, "I don't understand electricity, especially 220v)

Did you know that on most electric ranges, the oven heating element is energized at all times. The switch only switches one leg of the 220v line in. So, L1 is always hot and L2 is switched by the oven control.

You may ask me how I know that and I will only answer that now I have amazing super powers and can throw lightning bolts. 

But the oven works and now my wife can make more cinnamon rolls...

Look at that! A working oven element. I fixed something. The first thing I have successfully repaired this year.
