I was not meant to be a farmer, my calling was to be a "tinkerer"

My daughter gave me grief when she caught me looking at vintage guitars on Craigslist instead of studying for my devotional reading at Church.
Here words were something to the effect of me not even being able to play guitar and why was I looking at them.
I did not point out that I could probably preach a complete sermon by stringing together all the Christian Codewords I have in my brain cell storage unit. I've actually one that before in times of crisis but I do have to be careful not to get the lyrics of old country-western songs mixed in with the Christian Terminology.
But, I digress...
MuddyValley got me thinking about building musical instruments with his banjo post and I've seen collieguy's workshop and what I wonder is... Could a non musician actually build musical instruments that anyone would buy? Probably not, besides that is collieguy's niche!
Anyway, I found this link- (Click Here) I like the blog name, "Crawls backward when alarmed."
And then I found this link to what I would really like to do in life-build toys... (Click Here)
And now, I shall return to building a lego train around the Christmas Tree and listening to sqeeky Jazz Music on KMHD. I'd change the channel but it took so much effort to tune it in with my home built antenna that I don't want to mess with it.
Perhaps if I did not have a 50 year old stereo...
Have a nice evening.

  1. I don't know if non-musicians could build usable instruments, but I once met a blind man who built violins and other stringed instruments.

    1. It looks like it would be fun to do. I hear the blind piano tuners are the best at their job.

  2. I think I would have better luck at building musical instruments than playing them. Or maybe not. I'm listening to jazz on good old cbc am through headphones and a $5 radio. So you see I am not really qualified to comment on music.

  3. I would like to build toys. However, I don't think there is much of a market for reinterpretations of toy projects out of the 1951 popular mechanics plans book.

    1. It's marketing. The boys at Wham-O sold a whole generation toys nobody needed-until they saw one.

  4. I think you may have found a kindred spirit in Toy Making Dad!
However, I would still not rule out making an instrument.
Banjo, uke, or guitar. (Trombones being way too hard at this stage)
    You might surprise yourself.
    There are kits available.
You'd make lots of points with S--ie .
    Google banjo kits.

  5. Oddly enough, my secret desire is to be a lazy farmer...

  6. I was not clever enough to find the place to follow your blog. I did find it quite interesting. I will say being a lazy farmer takes more effort than one might thing. I do offer internships...

  7. I was listening to my Sketches of Spain LP yesterday on my Dynaco system thinking that my life would be totally complete if I could be a not-too-hardworking farmer.

    1. It is not all rosy being a lazy farmer. Sometimes your back gets sore from slouching in the easy chair. Sometimes I have to use my fake call feature on my telephone because I've been talking to the same farmer so long that I've run out of things to complain about.
Sometimes you order repair kits for your dynaco and you just never get around to installing them. Having the new capacitors setting next to the amp does not really help.
Have been reading your blog. Quite interesting.

  8. I was too lazy to notice that my Followers widget wasn't turned on. (Hmmmmm, that would explain my lack of followers...) It is on now. Thanks for the heads up and the fun read. I know the challenges of being lazy and the amount of effort required to do it right. Like I like to say, "This coffee ain't gonna drink itself."
