Engine removal

After 50 hours the rear mail seal appears to have failed on my 2-155. If there is anyone who likes to remove and replace Hercules engines, perhaps as a hobby, feel free to drop by.
The seal only leaked a little bit before I changed it. It didn't leak at all until 4 p.m. yesterday and then it leaked a quart an hour. I guess it is back to the 2wd tractor for planting. This will be a great day!

  1. Ugh. That sucks. If it makes you feel better, I can tell you about the dilemma I'm facing. I'm halfway done spraying a 120 acre field. It's wet as Hades. The buggy is making noises on sharp LH turns. I think it is coming from the CV joint in the LH knuckle. Last fall it made a similar noise in the RH side, after running it awhile I decided to haul it home and the CV fell apart and locked up as I backed off the trailer at home. So the question I face is whether to keep going and try to finish or cut my losses and bring it home and fix it. I really want to get done but I also really don't want to do a CV replacement out in the mud. I have no idea how I would even jack it up. Some of that ground you can barely walk across without sinking 3".

At least the field is tall enough that I can see my tracks since the rain has already washed away my foam marker. Oh wait.......crap.

I'll rent you the old JD 7020! Cheap! It's a good wet ground machine and easy on fuel. Too loud to hear NPR, though.

  2. Budde won't touch a JD. Unless he needs it to pull him out of the mud! Give him a day or two, it's still pretty wet.

  3. "After 50 hours the rear mail seal..." Budde! You are supposed to install what comes in the package, not the package itself!

  4. Budde needs to open his horizons a bit! Maybe rapping the engine out and then dumping the clutch is too off-putting to a guy who's used to being able to start full loads at idle with a G-1355. What, there are tractors you don't have to shift down if the engine pulls down under 1700 RPMs?

Oh. Ummm... But the resale value is so much better...nope, scrap iron price. Ok, parts are so much more readily available...NOT!

    Budd is a wise man.

  5. Main seal... perhaps I looked at the package wrong...
It is not that bad a leak, only four gallons in 20 acres.
We once rented a John deere. It was nice. It made my poop quit stinking!

  6. Yeah, you had a John Deere. That's for sure. Everybody around here who has new John Deere equipment thinks their shit don't stink...

Although your farmers now or then (my father 50 years ago) sound the same, reminds me of the old
joke "The old farmer won $100,000 in the lottery, and was asked what he was going to do with the money, scratched his head and said ...
guess I'll keep farming til the moneys gone" I
think farming is in your blood .. you'll need a
    complete exchange!

  8. Did you get a chance to build that splitter/thing-a-ma-jig that you showed us in an earlier post? Now's that chance. Take plenty of pictures.

As for JD, I don't normally hang around people who sniff their poop.
