If a terrorist is recruited and supplied by the FBI is he really a terrorist?

Here is a link to a story about another lone bomber, who didn't get his encouragement from the vast underground Islamic terrorist organization, but from the FBI who got the idea from a comic book or a movie.
I would have expected it from a U of O student. Of course he was really a good kid. The really good kids are the true believers... They are bought up to do what they are told, to hold true to their beliefs.
Now who said the TSA protest and scanner boycott wouldn't get results!!!

Note: This does not mean I am a strong supporter of the religion of peace or I did not notice that it was not that hard for the FBI to get the kid all worked up to kill the infidel...  I'm just making an observation...
This tactic worked pretty good for authorities when they were trying to catch abortion clinic bombers and white power people. I read one observation that there were more FBI informants in the Aryan Nations then there were crazy Nazi's.

  1. i was never a very willing advocate of making criminals out of people before they actually committed a crime either. laws like that can be too easily used for political purposes.

  2. Doesn't really sound like entrapment. Let's wait for all the information before passing judgement.
"According to an arrest warrant affidavit written by an FBI special agent, Mohamud was in e-mail communication in August 2009 with a person believed to be involved in terrorist activities. In December, that person was "located in the northwest frontier province of Pakistan," the affidavit states.
The two communicated regularly, the affidavit states, and "using coded language, they discussed the possibility of Mohamud traveling to Pakistan to prepare for violent jihad."
Mohamud attempted to contact another associate who he thought would help facilitate his travel overseas, the affidavit states, but "because Mohamud used the wrong e-mail address in his efforts to contact [the second associate], he never successfully contacted him to arrange travel."
An undercover FBI employee contacted Mohamud in June under the guise of being affiliated with the associate who was in Pakistan, according to the affidavit. Mohamud met with the undercover operative on July 30 in Portland.
Mohamud allegedly told the undercover operative that he had written articles that were published in Jihad Recollections, an online magazine that advocated violent jihad.
"Mohamud also indicated that he wanted to become 'operational,'" the Justice Department said. "Asked what he meant by 'operational,' Mohamud stated that he wanted to put an 'explosion' together, but needed help."

  3. Where have ye gone, Al Capp? A nation turns it's lonely eyes to... Fearless 'It's just a flesh wound, chief' Fosdick.

Seriously, I have crossed paths with expat Somalis in London during and after pub hours. If you wish to trifle with someone, these guys are not a good bet. Gummint is playing it for more than it's worth, but I'm gonna count this one up to the Feebeye for credit side of the ledger.

  4. I imagine the terrorist kid was probably quite sincere, sort of like GOod Christian kids who are determined to go spread the love of God though mission work.
Only this was just a little different...
I just wonder about the timing and location and who it made look good and if it was not easier to set up a crazy kid than it was to catch a real terrorist walking across the Mexican border in broad daylight with a N bomb or what ever.
    Just a touch of skepticism.
Then again, I Don't know why I would be skeptical after all the really well timed and competent terrorist attacks that have been stopped in the nick of time.

  5. It used to be called entrapment. That's sort of like seducing a young woman and then booking her for prostitution.

  6. This kid was crazy . Glad they caught him. He was obviously quite willing to kill innocent people.

  7. Oh come on you guys.
"Mohamud allegedly told the FBI operative that he had written articles that were published in Jihad Recollections, an online magazine that advocated holy war."
    He posted on a forum...
Do you really think the FBI tried to talk him out of it? Just trying to get him to incriminate himself.
It is such a total setup.
Americans actually stand up against the TSA and there is a bombing a day later? At a Christmas tree lighting?
The only incriminating information we get is from the FBI. Do you think that they have ever lied in the past? Don't you think perhaps they would lie to make themselves look like heroes?
The next thing will be a Somali chopping the head off a baby Jesus with a toner cartridge and yelling bang! Then we will find out he was caught by a Wallmart security guard who cautioned him that fat old ladies would be angry...
